The Church Council has, upon a recommendation of the Property Committee, endorsed a project to install rainwater tanks to supply the toilet flushing needs of the church and the manses.
This project began last year during the "Climate Change and me" project and was abel to develop due to a grant received form the Federal Government in December 2007 under the Community Water Grants Program.
After a lot of planning and testing including monitoring meters for garden use and toilet use it has been possible to design a project that is at no cost to the Congregation in terms of dollars outlaid to install the tanks and also to operate the tanks. The value fo water saved outweigh energy cost of pumping and maintenance.
In short the proposal is to install over 44,000 litres of roof runoff form the chruhc complex in 4 tanks (2 at 10,000 and 2 at 14,000. These will be connected automatically into the garden supply system and the toilets such that if there is no water in the tanks then mains supply will take over.
Checking and maintenance will be controlled by a small group of trained operators.
The challenge now is to complete the installation. Hire of equipment and plumbing and electrical trades will occur but there is a need to assist with a range of tasks (non heavy digging ro lifting is required.

Examples of the sort of help are we looking for:
We expect work to start in August with pipe laid to the manses so as to co-ordinate with the occupancy/landscaping of the manses. Then in October before the fete we install 2 tanks After the Fete we install two more (after dismantling and realigning the shed)
